It Takes Just One Visit
From oral examination to the placement of a lifelike porcelain crown, your dentist in Waverly uses CEREC technology to remake damaged teeth in only one visit. CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. Dr. Vacek uses this amazing technology to rebuild teeth ruined by:
- Decay
- Injury
- Congenital malformation (odd shape or size)
- Root canal therapy
- Large dental fillings
Used to create complete or partial crowns (inlays or onlays) and porcelain veneers, CEREC imaging, design software and milling processes render realistic prosthetics in just about an hour. There’s no need for extra appointments to try on and refit dental work. The patient comes to Amberly Dental and leaves with his or her new crown bonded in place with perfect fit and shape.
How Does the Treatment Proceed?
After an oral examination, digital X-rays and other imaging to determine if a patient may benefit from a crown, Dr. Vacek removes the damaged enamel and old fillings from the tooth. He employs a handheld intraoral camera to image the prepared tooth and uses the pictures to create a three-dimensional oral impression. This impression takes the place of old-fashioned models formed with impression putty and trays.
The dentist takes this digital impression to design a crown just right for the patient’s smile. CEREC involves CAD/CAM, or computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing; so while there is definitely an element of artistry involved in the design process, CEREC precision guarantees a practically perfect result.
The CEREC milling apparatus takes the dentist’s information and manufactures the crown out of a block of lifelike porcelain. Fabrication takes about 20 minutes and happens chairside in the treatment room. When complete, the doctor polishes the CEREC crown, carefully fitting and bonding it into place. In fact, most CEREC restorations fit with the very first try-on.
CEREC Crowns Look Natural
Unlike gold or porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns, same-day crowns blend right in with adjacent teeth. Also, patients do not have to wear temporary crowns or wait for their restorations to return from an outside dental lab.
Dentists and patients praise the longevity of CEREC crowns. With daily flossing and twice-daily brushing, plus six-month exams and cleanings, these restorations remain functional and attractive for years.
