Delta Dental Coverage Availability & Fees
Currently, Delta Dental offers three different plans for you to choose from when enrolling. They include Delta Dental PPOSM, Delta Dental Premier®, and DeltaCare®USA (DHMO).
If you are already enrolled in the DHMO plan, you’ll be required to choose a primary care dentist that is listed as part of the network. With a PPO plan, you have the option of choosing any dentist you like, but you will find that by selecting someone in-network, your savings will add up much quicker.
The reason is that in-network dentists enter into a contractual agreement with dental insurance companies, so they are obligated to pay more for the type of preventive or restorative service you receive.
The normal structure you can expect to find when reviewing your benefits breakdown might look something like this:
- 100% preventive services
- 80% basic restorative services
- 50% major restorative services
This means you pay virtually nothing out of pocket for dental exams, dental cleanings, and X-rays – a concept that promotes and encourages you to seek preventive care. However, should you suffer a serious injury or develop a cavity or infection, your Delta Dental insurance will still help pay a portion of the cost – anywhere from 50-80%. It’s important to remember, though, that your insurer will make sure you’ve met your deductible and you have available funds that can be used as part of your annual maximum – the amount Delta Dental provides at the start of each year.
